Recoil absorbing pads accomplish their purpose by a variety of methods. Compression of the pad is the most common method used to accomplish this task. Oil damped "shock absorber" as well as mercury filled and other options are also possible.

Adjustable length recoil pads allow the shooter to vary the length of pull for different situations such as hunting in warm weather with thin clothing and cold weather with several layers of clothing. Also these adjustable recoil pads can be rotated 360 degrees toe in or out to any comfortable position. These pads can also be adjusted up and down to 1 1/2". Proper fit to the shooter should be the prime consideration in choosing a recoil pad system.
